A.I.S.I.
Several organizations have been created to support Westwind's AISI project "supporting authentic learning."
- LEARNING COUNCIL - a steering committee composed of teachers, principals, AISI staff, board members and central office staff. Its mission is to "correlate the support of and accountability for student learning and performance."
- PROJECT DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE - a small action committee composed of central office staff, project leaders, AISI staff and professional development representatives. It does the nitty, gritty work of who, what, where and why.
This project will transform the cycle 3 mentoring model into a framework to enable systemic support for student learning, engagement and performance. AISI goals are accomplished through a learning support network. This is a flexible, sustainable delivery vehicle used to support student needs through contextually sensitive strategies. The learning support network is based on a model for leadership and coordination that has three core functions. Personalization puts the learner at the center. Precision ensures accuracy regarding individual learning needs. Professional learning involves teachers interacting in relation to focused instruction.
The learning support network primarily accesses the expertise of our own teachers and staff. This builds capacity and creates distributed leadership. External experts are contracted as needed to achieve project goals.
One way teachers can access the support of the learning support network is through Divisional PLC's (professional learning communities). This initiative connects like minded teachers together between schools and across school divisions to focus on projects with specific educational related goals that are intended to improve authentic student learning.
