Westwind School Division invites applications for the position of Principal at the Westwind Alternate School, Competition No. WAS-04-2017-PRIN. The position will commence at the beginning of the 2017/2018 school year

As a school principal in the Westwind School Division you will have the responsibility of leading, coaching and ensuring that effective teaching and learning both occur and are sustained to the benefit of all students. You will be expected to meet both the standards for quality teaching and the standards for school leaders. You will also be expected to demonstrate fidelity to system decisions and directions with integrity and genuine commitment. Your professionalism, collaboration and demonstrated skill in continuous improvement will contribute to benefit the students in all schools in our division. The ideal candidate will have a proven record in school administration, be able to sustain growth in teacher capacity and student learning and lead a culture of excellence.  

In fulfilling the Principal’s responsibilities, the successful candidate will:

  • Be a leader with a deep understanding of and a commitment to Professional Learning Communities
  • Have a passion for and a commitment to being the INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER of the school
  • Have a deep understanding of the Home School regulation and all other legislative and governing authorities
  • Be able to lead and administer Outreach Programs and Distance Leaning Programs
  • Lead a comprehensive approach to accountability and assurance for educational outcomes
  • Work with parents and students in various alternative learning environments
  • Establish and maintain exemplary working relationships with all division schools and personnel
  • Be innovative, adaptive and student focused in meeting the educational needs of all students
  • Have a deep understanding of evidence based instructional practices and staff development
  • Have demonstrated leadership in current classroom assessment practices and school wide grading and reporting methods.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in applying educational research and leading professional practice at the school or division level
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead a cycle of continuous improvement that is broad based, data driven, comprehensive and provides
  • coherence in guiding staff efforts toward clear school goals
  • Be an advocate for student voices, engagement and teacher professionalism
  • Be a determined leader whose actions unify and inspire excellence in the staff and student body
  • Be committed to engaging the staff and school council in an open and transparent manner in all areas of both educational
  • leadership and fiscal management
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and diplomacy skills
  • Possess or be in in pursuit of a Master’s Degree

The successful candidates will be required to provide a criminal record check and child welfare check before employment begins.
