2018 4A SOUTH ZONE BASKETBALL UPDATE

As far as basketball weeks at Westwind go, this is easily the biggest week of the year, with all of our Westwind teams hitting the courts and playing hard for banners. Here are some updates:

JV Basketball Playoffs

The Cardston Cougars will be representing Westwind in the girls and boys JV Playoffs as both teams face off against LCI on Saturday.  The Girls will play at 10am and Boys will play at 12pm. Both games will be at the University of Lethbridge and will be streamed live on Cougar TV.  CLICK HERE to be taken to the live stream directly. 

4A Girls Basketball Semi-Finals - Thursday

Magrath Pandas vs. LCI Clippers

It was a close game for the Magrath Pandas against the LCI Clippers. Lucy Wilde hit a three point shot to win the semifinal with a score of 67-64.  Adi Strong scored 14 points, with Lucy Wilde adding 12 to the team total.

Cardston Cougars vs. Raymond Comets

Cardston Cougars and Raymond Comets faced off in the other semifinal game last night with the Comets coming out on top with a score of 70-55.  The game top scorers were Lyvia Jensen with 21 points, Gracie Heggie with 19 and Kansas Long with 14 points. Cardston top scorers were Hanna Nunn with 16 points and Madison Barfuss and Ava Hardy each with 12 points.

NEXT UP

  • The Magrath Pandas will face off against the Raymond Comets in the zone final Saturday night at 6pm at the University of Lethbridge.  The game will be live streamed on Cougar TV. Both teams will be invited to Provincials next weekend in Medicine Hat.
  • The Cardston Cougars will play CCH today at 3pm and if they are successful in that game, they will play for third place on Saturday at 2pm.

4A Boys Basketball Semi-Finals

Magrath Zeniths vs Raymond Comets

The Magrath Zeniths were the first team to earn a spot in Saturday’s gold medal game, besting the Raymond Comets 97-75. Top scorers for Magrath were Paycen Blackmore with 36 points, Taylor Cook with 25 points and Sam Payne with 17 points.  Jeter Heggie was the top scorer for the Comets with 23 points and Drake Still and Brady Baines scored 17 and 15 points respectively.

Cardston Cougars vs. LCI Rams

It was a close game that game down to the wire, with LCI pulling ahead of the Cougars at the very end and taking the game with a score of  77-74.

NEXT UP

  • The Cardston Cougars will play CCH Friday night at 7pm and the Raymond Comets will play Churchill at 9pm. The winners of those games will play for third place on Saturday at 4pm.
  • Magrath will play LCI in the gold medal game on Saturday night at 8pm at the University of Lethbridge for the South Zone Championship title.
