Update on Raymond Schools Soft Lock Down

We want to make you aware of an incident that occurred in Raymond this morning. At approximately 11:10 AM, Edmonton Police Service made us aware of a possible threat made via social media by a former Raymond student. The local RCMP directed Raymond Schools to hold and secure until dismissal, as a precautionary measure, while they conducted an investigation in the area. This means that students and staff who were outdoors were brought inside and all doors and windows were locked so no one could enter or exit the building. Administrators in Stirling and Magrath were also notified as a precaution. Students and staff were safe at all times. Our schools remained secured until dismissal time, when we were assured by police that it was safe to dismiss students.

It is important for you to know that the safety of students is our first priority. We have Westwind threat assessment protocols in place to deal with threats to student safety that were enacted and followed. We want to assure you that all of our schools continue to be safe, secure learning environments for your children. We also want to commend students and staff for the way the situation was handled.

Due to the ongoing RCMP investigation, we are not sharing specific information about the incident at this time. Inquiries may be directed to Central Office 403-653-4991.
