Following the lead of the state of New Jersey, Grade 5 students at Cardston Elementary School celebrated Sikh Awareness and Appreciation during the month of April to explore Sikh beliefs, history, and recognize the important contributions of Sikhs in our community and throughout the world. After spending the month learning all about the Sikh culture in social studies, local community member and CES parent Braham Luddu visited CES to present information about Sikh culture and answer student questions. Students also got to enjoy authentic Chana Masala and rice as part of the experience.
Students have sent a letter to Westwind School Division, MLA Grant Hunter and the Minister of Canadian Heritage Melanie Joly, to request that every April be designated as Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month. You can read the letter HERE.
