Stirling School Grand Opening
Tuesday night Westwind celebrated the official grand opening of Stirling School, marking the completion of a multi-year modernization project that was officially announced in 2014 by then-Premier Jim Prentice.
Stirling School was built in 1957, with a structural addition added in the early 1990's. The new facility includes a clerestory that adds natural light to the gathering space, the addition of a state of the art gymnasium facility, music and drama theatre, science lab, media lab, art classroom and an audio recording studio.
The modernization was a collaborative process between the Village of Stirling, Westwind School Division and the province of Alberta, and we were honoured to have the Honourable Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education, as well as the Honourable Prasad Panda, Minister of Infrastructure, join us for this grand opening.
The evening was well attended by the Stirling community and included a meet-the-teacher night and school tours as well as a fundraising dinner organized by the Stirling School Council. The grand opening program was led by Stirling Mayor Trevor Lewington. Superintendent Darren Mazutinec, Trustee Josh Smith, Principal Inge Pot and several students also spoke at the opening.
We are grateful for the support and financial contribution of the Stirling community, Government of Alberta and the Ministry of Education as well as their investment in future generations of students in the community of Stirling.
A big thank-you to Morgan Schaufele for the photos!
