On September 3, 2021, Dr. Hinshaw announced further actions to reduce transmission and prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
In response to this announcement and based on our commitment to follow the guidance of Alberta Health, Westwind School Division will be adopting the measures outlined below until further notice in addition to our 2021-22 Back to School Plan.
PLEASE NOTE:Division Administration will continue to evaluate these guidelines on an ongoing basis based on individual school and community circumstances and the guidance received from and through consultation with Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services.
Basic Screening/Hygiene Procedures
All staff, students, and adults who plan to enter a division building must continue to use the daily health checklist and stay home when sick.
School leadership will continue to emphasize the importance of good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette to all students, staff, and parents. Hand sanitizers will continue to be available at our schools with voluntary use as part of our original startup plan.
As per the announcement, schools are not required to implement masking, but school boards will continue to set COVID-19 management policies as they deem appropriate.
At this time, students and staff are not required to wear masks in Westwind schools. The division will support any individual choosing to wear a mask.
School staff will continue to monitor for and address any discrimination or bullying associated with student masking choices.
Masks remain mandatory on school buses for all K-12 students, including field trips and extra-curricular transportation.
Any division employees that travel to multiple division worksites and schools are required to wear a mask while onsite when physical distancing can not be maintained. This includes Administration, Technology, Transportation, School Psychologists, Counsellors and Maintenance staff.
Masks will be mandatory for parents/visitors entering any school/division buildings. Volunteer coaches will be classified as staff members for this purpose and will not be required to mask while coaching.
This temporary measure will be revisited regularly and adjusted based on direction from the province and community case numbers.
Outdoor sporting events may continue as previously announced by the provincial government.
All scheduled division-hosted meetings will be held virtually until further notice.
Working from Home Recommendations
Work from home option is not available while schools are operational. Individuals requesting unpaid leaves to deal with personal matters may contact our human service department to discuss their situation and concerns.
