Administrative Procedure 370

DIVISION SCHOLARSHIPS

Background

The Division recognizes and supports academic excellence. To provide further recognition the Board will provide the following scholarships.

Procedures

  1. The Division will make available a scholarship grant of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) available to each high school to recognize the outstanding students as determined at the school level.
    1. High school principals will correlate dates and notify the Superintendent as early as possible.
    2. High school principals will submit to the Superintendent a list of scholarship awards and recipients at least two (2) weeks prior to graduation or awards ceremony. It is suggested that there be a minimum of at least five (5) separate awards given.

  2. The Division will make available a scholarship grant of four hundred dollars ($400.00) to the highest achieving students in each Diploma examination subject throughout the Division.
    1. Consideration of this award will be based on the marks achieved on the Diploma examination, not the final blended mark.
    2. In case of a tie, the students will each receive the full amount of the grant.
    3. In August, the Superintendent will prepare a marks comparison for all examination writings for the previous year and determine the recipients of the $400.00 grants. A cheque for $400.00 and a congratulatory letter will be awarded to each candidate.

  3. The Division will make available and present a scholarship grant of seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) for post-secondary studies to a worthy Indigenous student.
    1. The recipient will be selected from candidates that have submitted a letter of application and a portfolio, and who best exemplifies high standards of academic achievement, citizenship, attendance and extra-curricular participation.
    2. In case of a tie, the students will each receive the full amount of the grant.
    3. Notification of the $750.00 award is to be submitted at least two (2) weeks prior to graduation or awards ceremony.
    4. Applicants for this scholarship must submit their letter of application and a portfolio on/or before May 15 of the current academic year to the Superintendent.
    5. The selection committee will then determine the successful candidate based on the completeness of the portfolio.
    6. The scholarship cheque will be issued to the successful applicant upon receipt of acceptance from a post-secondary institution.
    7. To maintain eligibility of this award, acceptance to a post-secondary institution must be within three (3) years of their grade twelve (12) graduation.
