Administrative Procedure 300: Appendix: Grade One Orientation

Background

The Division recognizes the importance of orienting grade one students in the spring before they actually begin to attend school. This orientation will vary from school to school depending upon the size of the school and the number of grade one students involved.

Procedures

  1. The Principal shall be authorized to approve up to two (2) days in the spring for grade one (1) orientation, depending on the number of new grade one (1) students to orient and the structure of the existing class.

  2. Given the number of new grade one students and the nature of the class structure, the Principal may if necessary excuse the regular grade one students from school attendance for up to two (2) days.

  3. It is the responsibility of the grade one teacher to plan and organize the orientation.

  4. Cooperation with operating Early Childhood Service (E.C.S.) programs will be essential in determining a date.
