Sustainable Agriculture Education Partnership (SAEP)

The Sustainable Agriculture Education Partnership Board has generously provided Westwind Teachers with multiple $500 grants for the 2022-2023 school year. They have been providing these grants for a number of years throughout the division.

Here is some information about SAEP initiatives and their vision statement:

The vision of the SAEP is to engage communities—through education, work experience, and innovation—in expanding the agriculturally-based economy of rural Canada by capitalizing on domestic and global opportunities in food, nutrition, business, and technology.

VISION

Communities engaged-- through education, work experience, and innovation-- in expanding the agriculturally-based economy of rural Canada by capitalizing on domestic and global opportunities in food, nutrition, business, and technology.

MISSION

Providing experiential and academic opportunities for students to develop their skills to become future leaders in the agricultural sector toward meeting global demands for food and nutrition while contributing to their communities.

OBJECTIVES

01 - To collaboratively develop and deliver cutting-edge agricultural experiential learning opportunities and curricula.

02 - To partner with local, provincial, national, and global enterprises that will provide students with meaningful career opportunities in agriculture and agribusiness.

03 - To develop, refine and replicate a community-centered model for sustainable agriculturally- focussed economic development, and both land use planning and management.

04 - To foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture and agri-business in partnership with stakeholders in education, business, and government.

 

The Sustainable Agriculture Education Partnership is looking to fund MORE projects through their grant application process for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. They are looking for teachers and parent councils to become more involved with bringing agriculture into the classroom. The board is very passionate about this and would like to see all schools in Westwind become more involved. There have already been some incredible projects completed in the past, as well as some exciting ones this year! If you are looking for ideas for future projects please feel free to contact the board. They would love to help you get started!
