An Important Update from Alberta Health Regarding Measles
Alberta Health has asked all school divisions to share the following information regarding measles.
FAQ - Measles and Back to School
As of August 8, 2025, Alberta has reported over 1,700 confirmed measles cases. Alberta Health describes measles as a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air and can lead to serious complications, particularly for young children.
Public Health Protocols and Resources
In the event of a measles case in a school, public health teams will lead the response.

Students who have received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine are considered protected.

Public health will directly contact the families of unprotected students who have been exposed to the virus.
Alberta Health provides the following resources for all families:
- To check immunization records: Text "vaccine record" to 88111 or call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434.
- If you suspect measles: Stay home and call Health Link at 811 for medical advice before visiting any clinic or hospital.
