An Important Update from Alberta Health Regarding Measles

Alberta Health has asked all school divisions to share the following information regarding measles.

FAQ - Measles and Back to School

As of August 8, 2025, Alberta has reported over 1,700 confirmed measles cases. Alberta Health describes measles as a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air and can lead to serious complications, particularly for young children.

Public Health Protocols and Resources

In the event of a measles case in a school, public health teams will lead the response.

  • Students who have received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine are considered protected.

  • Public health will directly contact the families of unprotected students who have been exposed to the virus

Alberta Health provides the following resources for all families:

  • To check immunization records: Text "vaccine record" to 88111 or call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434.
  • If you suspect measles: Stay home and call Health Link at 811 for medical advice before visiting any clinic or hospital.
