Westwind Athletes Excel at Track and Field Nationals

Several Westwind School Division students represented the Wind Track and Field Club at the 47th Annual Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships, held August 8–10, 2025, in Calgary. Over 1,000 of Canada’s top under-16 and under-18 athletes gathered to compete in the country’s only national championship for these age categories, and Westwind athletes proudly represented.
Strong Performances Across Events

Peyton Pilling (17) captured a silver medal, finishing 2nd in the U18 Women’s 2000m Steeplechase with a time of 7:22.78. She also placed 13th in the U18 Women’s 3000m with a time of 10:46.98.

Devyn Perrett (17) showed her versatility with an 8th-place finish in the U18 Women’s Javelin (33.69m) and 19th in the U18 Women’s 2000m Steeplechase (9:02.35).

Alyssa Hansen (15) earned a 6th-place finish in the U16 Women’s High Jump (1.50m) and placed 36th in the U16 Women’s 300m Prelims (44.74).

Porter Pilling (15) finished 11th in the U16 Men’s 1500m Steeple (No Water) with a time of 4:45.87.

Kyle Hansen (14) followed closely behind, placing 12th in the U16 Men’s 1500m Steeple (No Water) with a time of 4:47.39.
About the Wind Track and Field Club
The Wind Track and Field Club offers training and competition opportunities for young athletes, with training sessions held at the Cardston High School Track. The club emphasizes skill development, discipline, and sportsmanship, enabling athletes to reach their full potential in both local and national competitions. Many Westwind students train with Wind during the club season, gaining valuable experience and coaching that prepares them to excel at meets like the Legion Nationals.

The Legion Nationals, organized by the Royal Canadian Legion, offer a unique opportunity for young Canadian athletes to compete at the highest level, often serving as a stepping stone toward collegiate, national, and even international competition.
