Westwind Rodeo Students Qualify for Nationals and Canadians

Talented Westwind School Division students recently competed at the Provincial Junior High and High School Rodeo Finals, and many have earned spots at upcoming national and Canadian competitions!

Junior High Rodeo Highlights (Grades 5–8)

At the Provincial Jr High Finals in Rimbey, AB (May 22–25), Westwind rodeo athletes made their mark:

McKoy Reeder had an exceptional district season:

  • Named All Around Champion

  • Earned Rookie of the Year

  • Finished as Season Leader in Breakaway, Boys Goat Tying, and Ribbon Roping
    McKoy also placed in the Top 4 in Alberta in both Boys Goat Tying and Ribbon Roping, qualifying for Nationals.

Gibson Woolf was the Season Leader in both Rifle and Saddle Bronc. He qualified for Nationals in both Light Rifle and Saddle Bronc.

Shane McCollister also secured a spot at Nationals in Light Rifle.

Nationals will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, June 23–29

High School Rodeo Highlights (Grades 9–12)

High school students competed at Provincials in Stettler, AB (June 3–8) and earned opportunities to advance:

  • Carly Nunn qualified for Nationals in Goat Tying

  • Allie McCollister qualified for Nationals in Pole Bending

  • Jett Powelson qualified for Nationals in Team Roping and earned a spot at Canadians in Calf Roping

  • Zane Akune qualified for Nationals in Trap Shooting

High school nationals will take place July 13–19 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, while Canadians will be held in Brandon, Manitoba from July 30–August 2.
