Westwind School Division is proud to celebrate Charlie Lynch, a Grade 6 student at Raymond Elementary School, who was selected as one of only nine recipients across Alberta to receive the 2025 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Student Award.

This prestigious award, jointly presented by the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) and the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, recognizes outstanding students in Grades 6, 9, and 11 who exemplify leadership, resilience, and a strong commitment to personal growth and citizenship.

Charlie was nominated by her Grade 6 teacher, Janae Olsen, who has been deeply moved by Charlie’s journey and the quiet strength she brings to the classroom. Over the past year, Charlie has demonstrated exceptional academic and personal growth, approaching her learning with focus, compassion, and determination. Her kindness and empathy are evident in every interaction, and she consistently supports both her classmates and younger students with quiet leadership and care.

Principal Jerry Salmon, who has also witnessed Charlie’s impact, shared:

“Charlie is the kind of student who quietly makes a big impact. Her journey this year has been incredible to witness—not just because of the growth she’s made, but because of how she’s lifted others along the way. She leads with heart, courage, and a genuine desire to make things better for those around her.”

Charlie was formally recognized during a special celebration hosted by ASBA on June 9, 2025, at Government House in Edmonton. Each recipient was presented with:

  • An award certificate from ASBA’s President and the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta,

  • A congratulatory letter from the ASBA President, and

  • A unique medal as a symbol of recognition for their exemplary accomplishments.

Charlie's nomination and selection reflect the very best of what student leadership looks like—rooted in empathy, perseverance, and meaningful action.

Congratulations, Charlie, on this remarkable and well-deserved honour. You inspire not only your school but all of Westwind School Division.
