Alberta Education Seeks Public Input on School Library Materials

Alberta Education is inviting Albertans to participate in a provincial government survey focused on school library materials and the selection process for books in school collections. The goal of the provincial government survey is to gather input on potential new province-wide standards to ensure that library materials are age-appropriate and support student learning.
The provincial government survey is open to all members of the public and will remain available until June 6, 2025. Topics include how materials are selected, what processes should be in place to determine age appropriateness, and the role of schools in managing library content.
Westwind School Division already follows established policies and review processes when selecting school library materials. These practices are in place to ensure that resources are suitable for students and aligned with the Alberta curriculum.
Westwind is sharing the survey to help ensure that parents, students, and community members have the opportunity to participate in this provincial consultation.
