Administrative Procedure 452: Appendix: Evaluation of Assistant Superintendent



The Superintendent shall report to the Board annually on the evaluation of the Assistant Superintendent(s), which is in harmony with the following guidelines and procedures.



  1. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent shall meet soon after the appointment of the Assistant Superintendent to come to discuss and agree on evaluation processes including the format and timing for the evaluation.
  2. The process for gathering information for the evaluation shall be mutually agreed upon by the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent.
  3. The initial evaluation shall correspond with the expiry date of the Assistant Superintendent's provisional contract. All other evaluations shall correspond to and be completed prior to the annual evaluation of the Superintendent.
  4. The major purpose of the evaluation shall be to improve the calibre and effectiveness of the Assistant Superintendent's contribution to the educational services in the Division and functioning of the senior administrative team.
  5. Criteria for evaluation shall be those responsibilities assigned by policy and/or those delegated by the Superintendent. (Administrative Procedure 452)
    1. The evaluation shall be based primarily upon
      1. Fulfillment of responsibilities.
      2. Success in achieving the goals of his/her Annual Professional Growth Plan.
  6. The evaluation report shall be narrative in form and may contain both commendations and recommendations for improvement.
  7. The Superintendent shall review the evaluation with the Assistant Superintendent prior to presenting it to the Board.
  8. All evaluations shall be presented at a closed meeting of the Board and are not intended for public release.
