  • Pay: No. ATA members are not paid by Westwind during a legal strike. 
  • Benefits: Health benefits remain in place. Westwind will continue both employer and employee premium portions to ensure uninterrupted coverage; details about recouping the employee portion will be shared later.

Pension contributions are suspended for the duration of the strike. You keep all pensionable service earned up to the day before strike action; no pensionable service accrues during the strike period.

Participating in a legal strike is protected under Alberta’s labour laws. Westwind will continue to communicate through official channels and expects respectful conduct from everyone involved.

Approved leaves continue uninterrupted. You’re not expected to picket or perform strike duties while on approved leave. (If your status changes, inform your ATA Local.)

Questions about union discipline or fines fall under ATA governance. Westwind cannot advise on ATA internal processes and does not collect union fines through payroll. Please contact your ATA Local or the Alberta Labour Relations Board for guidance.

No. Instruction is paused. Westwind will not request or accept instructional materials during the strike period. (Follow ATA direction for members regarding professional activity during strike action.)

Division email accounts remain active, but instruction is paused. Do not post new instructional content or learning packets during the strike. Division technology must not be used to coordinate strike activities.

Yes. Keys, laptops, phones, and fobs are not being collected at this time. However, building access fobs are deactivated during the strike. Email remains active.

Building access is restricted during the school day, and fobs are deactivated for the duration of the lockout.

All athletics, fine arts programs, extracurricular activities, and school-related events will be suspended from the start of the lockout and remain suspended until the end of the lockout period.
